Door Spring

Does anyone know the trick to install a new spring on the door check arm?

Put it in there on the rear hook with a long nose or magnet and pull it forward with pair of pliers or utility hook.

I have tried and tried to hook the spring on the rear hook. The spring must be to fat and it won't go on the hook.
I guess I will try to move the hook out a little so I can get the spring on the hook.

I do recall a bit of a balancing act with a long nose plier, trying to do what you describe...and keeping a retrieval magnet handy! It must be possible, though, as I got it done...
