Getting ready for a cross-country trip in a few weeks and giving the truck a thorough inspection and fluid change. Looking for easy to fix stuff that might save me from potential disaster on the road. Nobody likes to pay for work that one could do easily in their own garage.
So I decided to pull the hot side CAC boots to go after a little bit of oil leakage. Here's what I found:
A long split where I suspect someone had sliced it somehow wile removing or installing. Staple holes (yes, they drilled holes into the clamp and used staples to keep it in place).
WOW! No wonder there was a bit of oil leaking. And I don't want to think about how much more before the thing would have separated...
Nope.
The do it on the assembly line to save dropping the clamp when they go to put the parts on.
Noting like having to stop a line because some clamp fell off and the person bent over to pick
it up and whacked in the head by the next engine on the line moving forward.
There goes the xxx number of days without an accident.
