Bad PCM?

My 2015 f250 6.2L v8 has had the check engine light on for a little while now and it's showing the three codes below. There's no noticeable engine knock. I took it to the dealer and they diagnosed it as having a bad PCM. Before I go spend $1200, I wanted to see what you all think as far as plausibility goes and if there's anything I can do to check the PCM myself. Would there be other symptoms?

Thanks!

What are the stored codes? You sure it was PCM they said was bad and not the BCM?

Ah yes, I suppose that would be helpful
  • P0325 knock bank 1
  • P0330 knock bank 2
  • P06B6 internal control module knock

The P06B6 does indicate maybe a bad PCM. Did they attempt to re-flsh your current PCM?

Do you have tuner, programmer or similar installed?

No, they only diagnosed it when I brought it in. And no, no tuners or anything installed.

I would ask them to try re-flashing the PCM per the above Ford Workshop DVD troubleshoot step.

I realize this thread is about a year old at this point but I just had this issue with 2016 F350 6.2 with only 46,000 miles on the odometer. At the beginning of March, I brought my truck into the dealer for a P06B6 light. The dealer tech verified the issue, cleared the code, reflashed the Firmware and said if it comes back, we will replace the PCM. Earlier in the week, the CEL came back on. It also seemed to come on when it was damp out. I brought it back to the dealer. They reviewed the issue, Checked everything and confirm the PCM would require replacement. Ordered the part and the PCM was replaced this morning and made the truck ready for pick up. I went to the dealer checked all the keys and function over all. After leaving the dealership, I took the truck for a 40 minute drive. Everything felt fine. So I will keep an eye on the matter and it if comes up, the dealer can deal with it for at least another 3 years under the powertrain warranty

I’ll allow it. I actually took mine in to have the pcm replaced and I got the SAME EXACT error code not a week later. Luckily the part is under warranty. Guess I’m going back up to my mechanic...

Yeah my truck is a CPO 100K /7 year warranty purchased in 2018. The full warranty under CPO ends next month. 4 years/ 48K comprehensive. They found a tune coding in the diagnostics back in the early part of March. I told them that I had no tunes for the vehicle and it must have been from the previous owner. The service dept said they do not check the computer as part of the CPO process. (I was like maybe you should. More likely Ford's way out of saying we don't have to work on the vehicle anymore since it is tuned) The truck I purchased had window tint removed, it was wrapped, it had a remote start with a regular key. It was was also a lease from another state. The truck lived in Kentucky before coming to New Jersey. However, I have powertrain coverage until 2023 with the vehicle. So if the code comes back, the dealer will get the truck and figure out what to do next. With any luck it will be paid off in another month. Trading in is not an option for at least a few more years. Heck I would have had my 2011 still at this point. There was nothing wrong with except the fact it was hit at highway speed in the rear totaling out the truck.

As for your truck, sounds like something more to the story than the PCM. If it was a dealer, I wonder if you can press the service dept to black box the truck for a week or so and see if the data shows another issue causing the problem. If the data logger shows a blimp in a voltage drop or signal issue, it could lead to better trouble shooting. When I spoke with the tech about the tune the first time around. He made it seem changing the PCM was a common fix with this issue. He said he was on the fence changing it the first time around. The same tech worked on my truck this past visit as well.

good Luck with your issue.
