I once filed in July -without requesting an extension - because I figured they owed me $$ so I wasn't in much of a hurry. Got my refund. A week later got another check "for interest on my refund" approx. 3 months interest

For the past 30 years or so I've had to wait until they would accept it - I had to really keep my butt at the puter working on the taxes - I said screw it a few time but as I was heading for the door with keys in one hand and Sandy's leash in the other I convinced myself that uncle would grab me and take all my money for the Truck
