Brake pedal has been very squishy. Have to press harder than normal. Removed rear tires to check pads and calipers. Pads look almost new. I pulled calipers off and had my wife
press brakes and only one piston fully extended and the other partially extended. Normal? I had the calipers completely off the rotor so no resistance. What do u think?I think I need new calipers. Same thing on the other side.
It's not abnormal to have some differential in piston movement unrestricted like that. The piston with the least resistance will move. Next, you have to block the moving side and see how restricted the other is. When pushing out as well as how easy it is to push each one back in individually. When you do push the more restricted one in, the other will try to come back out.
The length of extension has to do with the volume of fluid pumped at the brake pedal. The determination is how easily does it move; how restricted is the movement. For the layperson it easier to determine that pushing the two back in.
