Trac bar

New to excursions but why did Ford use a Trac bar on the front axle with leaf springs? I understand the concept of what a Trac bar is for but Every other truck I've ever seen with leaf springs and solid axles never had track bars. I didn't think you needed it without coil springs and 4 link suspensions.

Might seem odd but under such a heavy truck steering and handling is far better with it as the forces would shift the springs in the bushings etc. Older Jeeps were set up the same way for the same reason. Is there a downside to the trackbar you are seeing?

I don't have any issue with mine, just more of a curious question than anything since I've never seen it before.

It’s on my list of questions to ask the original group of of engineers on the SuperDuty truck team. Obviously it is a handeling issue because of the weight but I want to hear the story behind its development, Mostly it puzzles me how they determined they wanted it on a leaf-sprung rig that doesn’t absolutely need it but then a few years later on the coil front ends where it is critical they used such a failure prone design. There has to be a good story behind the fiasco.
