It's been ages since I've been on here. I've continued to work on my truck despite life being busy. My current project is a 1979 F250 4x4 crewcab. I ordered a 4 inch set of leaf springs from Atlas Spring. I specified that my truck was all stock. I wanted 4 inch lift springs in the front, and to keep my factory rear block. I also specified poly bushings. I must admit I had reservations ordering from Atlas, as I had read SuperDuty93's experience with them. The springs arrived at the end of the 8 week window. The front spring bushing was the wrong size to fit the stock bolt. Small potatoes, I can fix that. Once the full set of springs were installed on the truck I knew there was a problem. The truck was very tall!!! Measuring from the same points on the frame before and after, the front gained 7 inches, and the back gained 6 inches. Needless to say, my truck was taller than specified. Worst of all, the front was taller than the rear! Not acceptable. My 4 inch lift shocks were now too short. I had to overnight order a 6 inch lift pitman arm, just so I could drive my truck. I called the company and they agreed to send me a complete new set. They tell me that the reason the springs were wrong is because I didn't tell them it was a crewcab. Since the crewcab was made in Canada, the stock height was 1 1/2 inches shorter than the US trucks. I call baloney, but whatever. They were willing to send me new springs. I waited roughly another 6 weeks before the second set of springs arrived. Imagine if I had left my truck sitting in the shop while I waited for them to arrive! The second set of springs came with sleeved rubber bushings, not the poly I ordered. It cost me close to $600.00 to swap bushings and have the new leaf springs installed. Guess what? Still not right. The front leaf spring was the right height, but Atlas' signature military wrap for the front leaf spring eye was missing. The rear set of leafs were exactly the same height as the first set. Only this time, the rear eye of the rear leaf spring was wrapped the wrong direction. ?!!!! I just spoke with Atlas today. They offered to send me a new set of front leafs with the military wrap in place. They said I could keep the front set of springs that are on my truck now to resell. Only the fronts. No rears.
Question: Do you know anyone who only buys a front set of 4 inch lift springs? Atlas said that people do it all the time. I requested to keep the rears also and send back the 6 inch lift front springs. Atlas did not agree. At this point, I am ready to ship everything back to Atlas and ask for a refund. Reason being, I can purchase a set of quality custom made springs locally that would cost me half of what Atlas has charged me. I went with Atlas Spring because they specialize in our trucks.
What would you do?
Interesting, I will be ordering a complete set of leaf springs for an 8'' lift in the next couple weeks.I also thought Atlas spring was the go to for these trucks.I might give Alcan spring a call.BTW did you order online or speak with them?
I spoke directly with a salesperson so there wouldn't be any confusion. I've spoken with the same salesperson the entire time. I've read good things about Deaver springs. How do they ride?
