Paint "Checking"
I have a black 2001 Flareside that the paint did the same thing -- looked like thousands of 1/4" razor cuts on the hood and roof. They said to drop it off Monday and it'll be done by Friday. They were painting only the cab -- not the box. They gave me a rental car; That was August 25th and I just got the truck back yesterday October 1st. The dealership contracted a paint shop to do the work and talk about a bunch of inept dip*****s. The story is too long to tell, but it involved weekly refusal of the job the painters did. Be aware of what they do and stick to your guns on the quality of the product you get. DO NOT accept the work until you've gone over every surface that was painted and every other item that wasn't. Check your door jambs, rocker panels, hood edges, etc. On one of the inspections I discovered that the VIN tag from the door was gone, the mirror surface (glass) had overspray that was cleaned off with sandpaper and interior panels where the plastic clips were missing/broken. It's been a MAJOR pain in my butt to go through this and the service manager yesterday, was insinuating that I was "finding" issues that were not the paint shops work just so I could have other paint imperfections fixed. I was calm and kept my composure most of the 8 different trips (1+ hour commute each trip)I made to the dealership to get the finished product. Press for the rental car -- you'll need something to drive.
