Thumbs up Rooftop Antenna Relo Kit!

A rooftop antenna relo kit for the 2013 - 2019 F-series appears to be on the way from Ford:

This kit won't help with clearance, right? It seems like the replacement shark-fin cover is the same size.

My take is the original antenna remain in place but be disconnected. Our camper’s front overhang clearance is OK.

The new antenna looks like a new shark fin.... I have other taller stuff on the roof of our camper, so I don’t foresee our overall clearance (~12 ft) getting worse.

Did I understand your question correctly?

I was thinking about clearance between the truck cab and the camper overhang.

Clearance for our truck’s rooftop shark fin seems to be OK so far; see pic below.

I need to do something about Sirius reception, but not sure mounting a fin on the camper is the answer. Unless the harness is easily disconnected when the camper comes off.

On my 2019 F450 I’ve been thinkin about installing another antenna on the black plastic cowling below the passenger side windshield wiper. . I think that location would be far enough ahead of the TC cabover that reception won’t be shadowed. I hope that location would work cuz I don’t want to put an antenna on the hood.

I'm curious as to when this kit might be available. And if it disconnects the stock fin.

I saw a new model GMC pickup in town yesterday and it had the 'shark fin' mounted on the roof curve right at the top edge of the windshield. Reminded me of a Unicorn horn sticking out there. It was parked in the Wally World parking lot and I never saw the owner. It made me think of this thread and I was curious as to who and how it came to be mounted like that.

Easy fix as far as Sirius radio antenna is concerned is to run a separate antenna behind the dash, through the firewall to the engine compartment and secure it out by the front of the hood. Had the antenna on the top part of the windshield and was fine until I dropped the camper on then it got spotty reception. Moving it out to the front of the hood and all is good. They are weatherproof antennas also.

Dont know why you wouldn't be able to. Mine is an older 2004 F250sd and as long as the radio is sirius ready you should be good to go. took about an hour to do. Good luck.

Well, one problem is that the Sirius mag mount antenna won't stick to the aluminum body.
I checked out the antenna wiring yesterday and found that from the radio the antenna wire crosses over to the passenger side, then up through the A pillar to the antenna puck. Mine is satellite only, no GPS.
There is a Fakra connector that is accessible by dropping the glove box door, and another connector under the headliner near the top of the pillar.
I ordered one of these from Amazon.
Once the adapter cable gets here I'll try the antenna on the dash. If that doesn't work I'll have to figure how to thread the wire out and up to the hood area.

Install complete. Ran the antenna wire under the door molding and into the engine compartment via the opening between the fender and pillar panels. Mounted the antenna to the plastic vent panel with velcro.
If it doesn't work well ther there is plenty of wire to move it more forward.

Eight0six,

Can you share a couple things about your install?

Where did you purchase the antenna........, part number, cost, etc.

Connecting the antenna.........., where is the connection point under the dash, and what is the best way to access it, and was that cable adapter mentioned in your previous post required?

Thanks
