Hey guys, I'm rebuilding my engine with an Enginetech kit.
First gasket to go on was the timing cover...it was subtly the wrong shape so I used RTV gasket maker instead.
Second gasket to go on is the oil pan... but it's too big and lining it up with the bolt holes makes it bulge in the middle. Or is this normal???
I'm unfamiliar with enginetech, but I don't recall having that issue with the 1 piece silicone gasket.
Here's a picture of my FelPro gasket laid out on the engine block. It has the 4 alignment pegs in place, and lays down nice and flat.
Considering how amiable silicone is, you probably won't have an issue with it. But... once the engine is installed, replacing an oil pan gasket is a royal pain. Much easier to get a proper fitting gasket while its out.
That gasket will work fine. The gasket needs to only be moved together at the ends a few thou to get a sizeable bulge like that. Take a cue from ABs photo showing alignment pins. Also, you did remember to apply sealer to the corners of the rear main bearing cap prior to torquing it down? If not now is the time.
All the bolt holes line up, coming in from either end, but leaves that big bulge in the middle.
I thought they were Fel Pro too, but are you sure it's not some cheap copy? It has no markings on it. It didn't come with any alignment pins. It doesn't have torque metal limiter inserts. The tabs are in different spots as you can see in the photos. The blue silicone valve cover gasket has "enginetech" molded into it...and it obviously doesn't fit...bulges up a full inch...
Update: Yeah...I don't think that these gaskets are Fel-Pro. The head gasket doesn't look like the Fel-Pro one either. NONE of them look as good as they do on the photo on Rock Auto where I bought them: https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo...1414583&jsn=10
