My fronts were down to the metal at 35k miles and the rears are about 30-40% left. My rig is heavy and it hardly goes anywhere without the Montana hooked on. Main reason I am looking at discs for the Montana. I went back with OEM rotors and pads.
My 5er is also heavy and the brakes sucked, so I wore out my trucks front brake pads. Got the MotorCraft heavy duty pads and then, I installed hydraulic disk brakes on my camper. What a difference in stopping! It's awesome!
At 63,500 miles, My fronts were paper thin. Back pads had 50% left. Found out because I had the tires swapped around because the front tires were going wearing on the outsides from to much tow in. I got taken in by the local NAPA Store. Ultra Premium pads to the tune of $97 a set front and back. My 3 Axle Boat trailer had Paper Thin Pads as well. My Luck continues. Trailer is 15,000 lbs with Kodiak Dacromet calipers and Kodaguard calipers, Electric over Hydualic. Two Years and about 10,000 miles. Swapped in the 89 Chevy Cavalier pads. I will see how long both the truck and trailer last on the NAPA Brand Pads.
Kodiak and Tiedown Engineering G4 Vented Disk Brakes are based off of the 89 Chevy Cavalier. Tiedown calipers rust and seize in 2 months. Used the Chevy Calipers that are $20 a side compared to the $70 for Tiedowns. The Disks last for awhile. FYI for those that Tow and Dump the trailers in the Saltwater
Copy that... Love the old school Crown Vics. We have Explorers now. The Taurus was a pain to get into with all the gear on. We had Vics also when I got on in 95. I'll keep this short. Couldn't resist...
Am I old because I started in an '89 square body Caprice???
Am I old because I started in an '89 square body Caprice???
No, you're old because you were born a long time ago. But really, you just paved the way. Back when being a cop meant being a cop. Not afraid of politically correct this and that and body cameras.
Is there I link to hydraulic trailer brakes? I've never heard of that before!

Only a little older than me. There was an Indian who went through the academy with our class who had the round body Caprice cruiser. So you'd be like the senior guy...
Ah, back in the day when political correctness didn't exist, stick and stones hurt people and not words, people didn't have a breakdown despite who was president and no social media. Kids passed notes in class...
Now back to your regularly scheduled brake thread.
Am I old because I started in an '89 square body Caprice???
You are old. But not alone. I also started in a square body caprice. Did almost 20 years in a crown vic. Supposed to be getting a '19 explorer in the next couple months. It will likely be my last patrol car
