Probably replaced with a car engine at one time or at least the timing cover was changed at some point.
I have a rear sump pan, and a front mount dipstick. Is this going to work? The dipstick is in the block, not timing cover. Just got the truck, so I am discovering many odd things. I thought I had a 239 because of the V in the VIN, but I am beginning to wonder now.

There’s only two places for the Y Block dip stick; the Block = Truck, or the timing cover = car. Can’t be upfront but in the Block.
the red engine Could mean a car motor but then again maybe the previous owner liked red. Get some numbers off the Block and heads and that will help better identify what you have.

Reason: Added red engine

Red paint, if original and if a truck engine , would mean a 1954. But it sorta looks like an orange red, almost like a Chevy engine color.
I had to go look because I couldn't remember but the car dip stick goes innthe front hole in the block

So, will a front mount dipstick be accurate on a rear sump oil pan??
I wouldn’t think it would work. Here’s a side shot of a front sump.
Thanks..I did look at my 61 Ford Truck with a 292, and it has the rear sump with a front dipstick, so I guess it is possible. It appears the engine in my 55 is a 272 according to the numbers.

Do you think you’re getting an accurate reading with a rear sump pan front dipstick? If I used the center dipstick location on my front sump pan, it doesn’t look deep enough to get a reading. Dennis

Good point..Not sure, that is something I will have to investigate. Cheers
