Smells like brakes?
Smells like brakes?
My new F350 seems to smell like the parking break is stuck on. Or some type of smell. It happens after driving. Can’t figure it out.
is having a kind of burnt weird smell normal for a new truck with now 500 miles? Could it be something with the exhaust. Is that the new burning off or is something maybe wrong with it?

its a regen, you probably parked the truck as it was going through it.. sometimes you won't notice the smell because it'll happen as you're driving and it'll be over once you parked, its normal, one way to know if you're going through a regen look at your milage, if it drops to about 10 mpg(at least for me) its going through a regen
Really sounds like your describing a Regen, I have a 2017 and I was wondering the same thing a couple of weeks after I got it home (around 500 miles) I parked it and could smell a burnt break pad smell. It was a Regen. I have a XL and really wish they had a light or message just to let you know it going through a Regen. You will definitely see your mileage drop though!

There’s no visual indication when its doing a regen. Don’t worry about it. If you are on interstate when it’s doing a regen and you are monitoring your instant MPG you will see it drop considerably. Mine goes from about 20 MPG to as low as 11 MPG while it’s in regen.
The first time it happened to me it was alarming. I had 500 on the odometer and I was stopped at a light after pulling off the interstate. It was a very strong smell like burning brakes or burning coffee.
As time one goes on the regen smell is not as strong.

You can activate the “percent full” showing how close you are to a regen via FORScan. When the filter starts to empty you are in a regen.
You may also get your dealer to activate the DPF% screen using their IDS system. When I did, they were not aware it could be enabled, but they now offer it to others for a nominal fee.
