Just wanted to let anyone know that plans on doing this mod, I wired right into the license plate wires which is in a harness. It’s tucked right under where the receiver is going from
one side to another. I then made my own ground with a nut and bolt into the frame

Looks good. I've really gotta get around to doing it. I bought the light and installed it, I just haven't wired it up.
Youll need to add some wire to the harness but that’s no big deal. The light bolts right into the existing holes that the blank plastic is bolted to. Matt

What is with the light near the gate handle? I dont have that on my 17 XLT
It a courtesy light to see where you're walking in the dark. I think it's part of a package, with the side mirror puddle lights, etc.
My Lariat has them.

when you unlock the doors with the key fob, those lights will come on below the side mirrors
and the light on the tailgate.
I think the Lariat Pkg and up gets the light pkg.
