Thanks for the information thus far. I checked the Carnegie Body spring code chart. My truck has the "U" springs which are rated at 4800 lbs. The "X" springs are rated at 6000 lbs. How harsh of a ride do you get with the "X" spring? The snow plow assemby weights about 800 lbs. Would I be better off with the "W" spring rated at 5600 lbs? My only concern is the ride from the heavier rated springs, since 99 per cent of the time the plow isn't on the truck. Unless someone knows differently, it seems Ford uses the same "X" spring in both gas and diesel trucks. If they do, the ride may not be as much issue with the diesel.

SLC10844, The ride with the X springs is a little firmer than standard springs but not bad at all hardly noticable in comparison.

I had an 02 Silverado 2500HD with the snow plow prep package and the front end was sprung really hard. It gave a harsh ride and would almost bounce the front end off of the road on a sharp dip. Right now I'm leaning toward the "X" spring, mainly because it seems to be the spring Ford uses with snow plow package on the SD and the Meyer lists two frame mounts, one for the "V" and another for the "X".

The reason for the different plow mount is that the X's are 1.5 " taller than the other's.

Another note: Ford does not offer the snow plow pkg on PSD Crewcabs because of the added weight of the plow. You may run into warranty issues if you add a plow.

Just a quick chime in: I have a 03 250SD XL Reguar Cab 5.4L, it has the 5200 lb front springs. It specifically has the snow plow package listed on the sticker. It sat a full inch higher in the front than the back. I added a superlift 1-1/2 add a leaf to the rear and it sits about 1" higher in the rear.
