Part Indentification

I just bought a 2003 F-250 HD Supercab 5.4. Im replacing alot of parts due rust from the owner living up north. All is going well but there is one rust part i cant identify and im not able to findit. This part is a rod that comes through the firewall from i believe the steering wheel. So i figured it was a steering arm but cannot find one like it. If u were cut this rod in half and looked down it, it would look like a plus sign from the way its grooved. I cant tell what the ends fittings look like as they are currently covered by a bellow. Any idea?

That should be the steering shaft. Should have some small built in U-joint type joints for when you turn the wheel. The one in my 08 is pretty rusty.

That is an interchangeable part from Ford
