Door Jamb Switch - How to Remove
I recieved new door jamb switches today and I'm not quite sure how to remove the old ones safely...just dont want to break something that needs to stay. All help appreciated.
It's been a while since I replaced one of the interior light door jamb switches on my former 79 F-100 and haven't had to replace them on my 77 F-150. After looking at your picture, if you don't already have the switch disconnected from the wiring pigtail. Clean it with a parts brush, compressed air and some electrical contact cleaner. If you don't have electrical contact cleaner use something like WD40 or silicone in aerosol form.
Your switch appears that the plunger rod from the old switch has corroded and remains stuck in the wiring pigtail end. The plunger needs to come out of the plastic wiring pigtail housing and it should after you clean / lube it. Before installing the new door jamb switch, clean the male post (terminals) on the wiring pigtail and apply some dielectric grease and or silicone for lubrication, prevent moisture and corrosion accumulation
Your new switch looks like it the same length, but make sure the pigtail and new switch connection is the same, as I think newer Ford trucks used a slightly different connection.
The new part is a little different than the old part but I got the connector apart...there are some little tabs. At first the installed part looks too long but if you close the door gently it seats itself properly. See pics.
