1989 Ford Ranger 4*4 2.9 litr. First of all, thanks for letting me join this group. Have a problem w the 5 speed manual transmission. I replaced the fly wheel, clutch disk, pressure plate, and bearing, all from AutoZone. Problem is, when shifting into 2nd and 3rd, notice clutch slippage but it goes away when I shift into 4th gear. What do you all think could be wrong. Any advice is greatly appreciated.
I see you don't have any replies yet, so I'll see if I can get things started.
Was it doing this before all the work?
Was it ok right after all the work, but began suddenly after some event?
While the tranny was out did you perform any maintenance/repair work on it, like replace any of its input, or output shaft seals or bearings, or the shift rail rubber plugs, or the tranny lube?
While the tranny was out did you closely check, or also replace the engine rear main seal?.
What kind of shape is the tranny cross member & engine mounts in?
Lastly, any maintenance on the drive shaft or U joints & did you mark the drive shaft & get it back together as it was before dropping it?
Some preliminary thoughts for consideration.
