Hey all, I tried searching but only came up with threads from earlier SD models.
I'm noticing what I'd consider excessive play in my steering wheel - I just got back from a 300 mile trip and I felt like I was fighting to keep her in the lane more than I should be. I only have about 5500 miles on her and I feel like the steering felt much tighter earlier on, but I don't drive it very often. The trucks I drive most often feel like the wheel is much more responsive and tight on the highway. The truck is a 2018 SRW CCSB Lariat with adaptive steering. Front tires are inflated to 65 psi and I have the stock tires that come with the machined cast aluminum 20" wheels - LT275/65/R20 OWL All-Terrain
Has anyone else experienced this and had it investigated by the dealer? I'd like to try to define my expectations before taking it to the dealer and will probably ask to test drive a similar truck to compare as well.
There is a recent thread on replacing the lower steering shaft and other threads that discuss tightening the steering gear in the steering box. I think that some would caution doing the later, as it's very possible to over tighten that gear which would cause premature wear. That said, I had done that on previous SDs with some success.
Good luck with the dealer, everyone is different but my experience with these types of things is that it can be a tedious process to sort this out.
Exactly the same issues with my new 250 Power Stroke. The dealership has had for two weeks. In order to get it to drive correctly they have to take the stabilizer off. Ford says this is normal for a new truck. Bull Crap. Totally unacceptable. Never had a Ford Truck that wonders all over the road. Only 100 miles on the truck.
Jack up the truck rear and set the rear axle on a good set of jack stands. Have a friend bring it up to 55-65 and
watch the rear wheels. If they run smooth with no bounce, switch the front tires to the rear and re-check.
