you have to have a pretty significant lift for the suspension to have enough room up front for the sfa to clear everything from what i've seen and heard. Supposedly a 7 inch lift if i'm not mistaken. The front end parts can be had for even cheaper for the stock setup if it's not in the axle. You could buy all new front suspension pieces for less than a grand. Not sure where his mechanic is coming up with the 3 to 5 grand speculation.
I cant figure out if I want to go with a sfa, or a long travel. Atleast with the long travel Im guaranteed to have fun Medians and curbs shall shall bow down in fear
is anyone at all still interested in doing this, or has this finally been done by any of you?
I'm probably going to go through with this, but with super duty axles and drivetrain from the 5.4L versions. It'll convert my 03 f150 2wd to a 4x4 Beast on 40's at least. I plan on keeping leafs in the back for a while, but then I will most definitely switch to a coil over suspension.
Either way, does anyone have any input on this subject, or has it all dried out?
There are many straight axle 97-03 F150s running around, there's a few on fordtruckworld.com. A few people have even converted 2wd's to full straight axle 4x4's as well.

Doubtful on the 2wd to full staight axle 4x4's. You can run 4x4 on our trucks with a solid front... well unless you re design all the cross supports including building a custom transfer case. Thats kinda why the 4 solid axle f-150's we have in the neighborhood running around have no front driveshaft hooked up. All of em said it was literally impossible without 10-20k to re design the chassis. Looks like they are 2wd solid front trucks...

yea kiss your 4wd goodbye. You cant Solid front our trucks and keep it 4wd. There is too many things in the way. Well unless you by a 3k custom driveshaft... then your just dee dee dee to begin with. BTW I know 4 guys running solid front f-150's and all of em are 2wd with no front driveshaft. There is NO way to run the front driveshaft with how the transfer case and chassis cross brackets go. Either you have to take the chassic crossmembers out (yea, generally its a stupid idea to modify the chassis on a vehicle besides a c notch...) All in all, you will have one hell of a tough 2wd truck... if you want to keep your 4wd gotta keep your ifs... BTW most of the guys around with solid front f-150's generally use leaves up front. How our chassis is designed up front gets in the way of coils. I think 98 and earlier you can get away with it, but for 00 and later.... sorry but leaves are the only practical way of getting it done for less than 15-20k

no infact they generally run around 10k from a shop. I dont know where you think this can be done for cheaper... maybe its because you have never seen the amount of work to get our trucks solid, and the amount of crap that needs to be modified. These are NOT toyotas... you can't use the amount it would cost to get a toyota solid when our trucks are Completely diff. I came up with about 3k for parts ONLY. Nothing else. Thats a legitely built front end also. You can't say o well you can get a font axle from a junk yard for less than 500.... yea one that is stock. I think if someone wants to put a solid on he will be abusing it... that case it will have to be build stout. Its easy to dump 3 grand just into a rear end... and you can easily do that for the front also. Lockers, Better axles, better gears, better bearings, bigger brakes,... the list goes on. Don't forget the 1k a set leaf springs (yea, to do it right deaver springs only... unless you are a cheap barstard to begin with...) Shocks.... etc. Heck, just my leaves and shocks on my f-150 ran me 2.5k. So again, I don't see how it can be done for cheaper... especially with shop labor avg at around 75 an hour. (and its about 12-20 hours of work)

I see you haven't read any of the links posted. BTW, nice ninja edit.
Nice ninja edit? For correcting typos? LOL 2nd, no I have not read EVERY comment. I read the last page. On even a funnier note... your replying to a solid front thread and you don't even have a lifted f-150... Doh! I just looked at the all the pages also... why did you comment when you have not even been a part of this discussion? I believe I was adding to my previous post from january...

I suggest reading the entire thread first. Have you looked in my garage lately? How do you know what vehicles I do and don't have? Am I only allowed to participate in certain discussions? Could you please let me know which ones I can and cannot?
He know it will be a fab job. Remove crossmebers and make new ones do away with abs for the most part and redrill rear axels to match bolt pattern .
Once the tranny member is made and engine cradle made frame reboxed. The donor front axel is (will have brakes springs ect .) Centered and spring mounts made.
He he is hands on it will Be pricey but not $10000
I can get a whole 99 SD F350 For $1000 sans motor . More than good enough axels there.
