They have completely different frames. I'm guessing the SD's is wider. I do know that the SD's rear axle spring perches need to be moved to be used in a F150.
I dug it up because I have a f150 with a messed up front suspension. I am trying to figure out if I want to fix the IFS or just bite the bullet and put a solid axle under it.
It is a daily driver. I'm just thinking the price of fixing the IFS vs the price of putting a solid axle under it. I'm also concerned about the reliablity of the IFS too. My truck is already lifted and has 35 inch BFG all terrains on it.
Like they say...a true redneck has at least one parts vehicle for every vehicle they have! i'd just go to a salvage yard and buy an axle. or you might get lucky and find one on ebay or craigslist. have you looked in the classified section of this site?
The wheels turn in when I back up. When I try to use 4wd the passenger side tire turns inward. It has a lift that is discontined. I know for sure that there is at least one brace missing. I also think that the center( drag ) link is either bent or installed backwards. The center link moves enough it has dented my oil pan. There is a tab on the center link for a steering stabilizer that almost worn a hole in my oil pan. I was quoted $3k-$5k to fix it by the local tire place, but they also said that they WON'T touch it. I am trying to figure this thing out and do it my self.
not off hand, I sold both my 97 and 02 F150s since 2003. all I have now is an 03 expy, 88 f250, 97 F350 (old body style, not SD) and of course my 81 bronco. I'll ask around at work this week and see if I can't get some mesurments for ya.
3 to 5 grand? You could buy a parts truck with a blown motor for far less than that and get you a good front axle and new oil pan! I seriously doubt their quote, that's just plain stupid.
just found this on ebay. 2002 F150 front end. if gearing is wrong a new set of gears for $150-200 bucks is simple. Front end is 300, i'm sure you could get it shipped to your garage for $200 or less. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2002-...2em118Q2el1247
dude thats not a front end assembly. Its the front axle. The actual suspension is not inluded. I recall him sayin his ifs was skewed...not the front axle.
A few guys out here in san jose run the solid front. 250 front and rear axles. One of them was running 48's for a few. Cost them around 4 k all said and done. (he did it himself the first time but screwed up... yes its really easy to be even mm's off. Ended up taking it to a fab shop and having it professionally done.)
Search around more on google... I cant remember the sites they had tutorials on.
