Draining for fuel filter

Trying to change the fuel filter on my 2017.
So far I’ve drained 2gallons of diesel and no sign of stopping.
I’ve searched and watch YouTube...no one is draining this much. Do I just keep draining??

You need to open the filter housing itself a little bit to engage the antisiphon valve. Otherwise you will drain your entire tank. On the 2011-2016s its about 3 turns of the fuel bowl. Not sure how on the >2017s.

I ran into same issue, I drained about 2 gallons of fuel before I decided to loosen up filter housing, then it finally stopped flowing, of course I got deisel fuel all over me, good luck with the mess, otherwise process was easy.

Its full.
After 3.5 gallons I’m assuming that’s the problem and I’ll try again when it’s low.
I didn’t want to try loosen the housing in case fuel keeps comimg and I can’t seal it up again.

I didn’t see any YouTube videos that said make sure the tank isn’t full. One guy was reading the instructions he had printed from Ford on how to do it, and he never said anything.

Loosening the housing only applies to 2016 and older. In my experience, <1/4 tank Is the key on my 2017.

If all you're doing is draining the filter to check for water then you need to drain maybe a quart or less. Just enough to see if there are two different fluids in the jar. Water comes out first, so you don't need much unless the whole filter is full of water. If that really was the case then there would have been a warning on the dash about it.

I guess the moral of this thread is you don’t change the filter with a full tank.
I have less then a quarter tank this time and about a quart drained out.

I believe that late '17's had a check valve installed to prevent excess fuel from draining.
