I rode in a friends GMC last night. He just bought it from one of our neighbors. 2003 Crew, 4x, 6" lift, 37" BFG's, Chipped & Exhaust.
This thing flat got up and went. Nearly spun the tires all the way through the gears. Felt like I was in my 5.0 GT Mustang. I sure hope that my 6.0 I ordered last week has this kind of pull.
Dave,
I have spent many miles driving DuraMax trucks, both light and towing. Stock, lifted, 'chipped'....etc; I have a gang of friends
that have them, in fact I have done the majority of the work on them, including lifts. As a diehard Chevrolet guy, it is hard for me to say, not one of them runs as hard as my Ford. My friends say it is inconceivable for a Ford to be sitting in my driveway....but there it is!
You'll be happy you got a ford.
Here's a story for ya (not involving a chebbie though )
I was haulin down the highway trying to catch another DRW truck I saw. It was an older one with the 7.3L in it. It was chipped and had the gauges in it. I quickly caught, and passed it doing about 90. (the lady driving the DRW got a shock )
This truck will beat most of the older 7.3L's chipped. (Don't ask what kind of chip that truck had, this is just an example)
Moral - the 6.0L's are FAST. I can't wait to get my truck chipped !!!
I think you'll like it just fine - nice trucks. I test drove 1 before I bought the chevy and I liked it quite a bit. Only deciding issue for me was motor issues they were/are having and some ergonomic things. Seems the problems are getting fewer and fewer though.....

I am also a big Chevy/GMC fan but when it comes to the Ford SD, there is just no comparison. My last truck was a GMC and my brother-in-law had a 2001 V-10 F-250 SD that I absolutely loved. I bought the 2003 PSD F-250, he drove it, and had his (PSD) within a few weeks.
Up where I work. The aluminum heads on the duramaxs and worth a hoot.. Cracking and not holding up to the arctic enviroment. But we run them really hard..
There a surveyor that rents an office from us and he has a 02 Duramax extended cab long bed. Says he gets around 19mpg mixed highway/city use. We have both noted that the Duramax is a little quieter at idle but both engines are the same at highway speeds. Our "scientific test" on whose was quieter at idle was to park each just outside my office window and start one at a time. However, I can always tell when a 7.3L pulls into the parking lot and can easily tell when a Dodge cummins just drives by on the road.
agreed with the noise part. My grandfather has '97 7.3 and I can hear that thing quite well. Can't say to many bad things about the motor - he's got over 300,000 miles on it hauling is 5th wheel too alaska from wisconsin and back a couple of times visiting a couple of his sons (my uncles). At least with the dMax and the new 6.0 you don't have to shut down at a drive-through. Grandpa's hard of hearing anyway and it doesn't bother him much...
