i stumbled across a thread or website a while back that was pretty complete on a how to go pull a powersteering bracket from a van for a saginaw pump. It had a tool list, can someone help me find it?
This is a great mod. I did it a few years ago. I'm not sure about a tool list. You just need a wrench to remove the bracket and lines. Take the bracket and pump together off of the parts vehicle. If you need to know what size the bolts are just check the bolts on your current bracket. If I remember next time I'm out in the garage I will check mine for these bolts and the lines. I think the belt tensioner is 15 mm or you can just cut the old belt You have to slightly bend the new high pressure line to clear the radiator hose.
Great upgrade to the truck.
mine was a 4.9 so confirm with someone about 5.0/5.8 comparability
not a complete list but..
the bracket and pump from most likely a van of the same engine, that has as if you have ac. (the brackets are different for ac vs non ac)
the bolt lengths required to install the bracket on the block will be different in some places, so take measurements after you get them both out.
rebuild kit for the pump. (make sure you place the one oval metal piece with dimples in the same orientation you found it, or you will have to take the whole thing out and tear the pump down again, ask me how I know)
I re used my return line, but I purchased a high pressure line from the same year van i got the bracket and pump from. It just took a little manipulation to get in place.
For my 4.9 I required the belt from the van as well (it was 2-2.5 inches longer if I remember correctly.
I re used the return line, tension-er from my truck.
As you can see from the thread linked above, I swapped in a Saginaw to my 4.9 and continue to be happy with the results. I was surprised that I was able to use the high-pressure hose from the E-series van, as I had read that it might be a fitment challenge. I don't know if it might be more or less of a challenge in the V8 world.
I also heartily recommend the Saginaw conversion. We did it over 10 years ago to our son's 92 Bronco and about 12 years ago to my F350 (which also got a Hydroboost brake conversion as well).
So I struck out hard at the U-Pull-It. I had fallen off the wagon of checking weekly using row52.com for an E-Series, Econoline, or Club Wagon. The only part removed from the 5.8L van was the steering pump and bracket. All the other vans I have seen were triton years 97 and later. Which years prior to 92 would work? I search using 92-96.

I would think you should be able to go back to '87. I say that assuming that the E-series vans got rev'd at the same time as the F-series. The early 80's vans had a different bracket and used V-belts, but still the Saginaw.
My unit (Cardon rebuild) is just as quiet a dozen years after I put it on.
I "rebuilt" my own Saginaw, but the extent of that rebuild was simply replacing the seals via a $10 O-ring kit. And frankly, I didn't even replace the seals inside the pump - just the ones that seal the reservoir. I also cleaned the magnet off that Saginaw neatly drops inside each pump.
The other nice thing about the Saginaw pump is all the detailed knowledge that is available about them, should you want to tune then in some way for pressure and/or flow volume. Here's one such link... Modifying your Power Steering Pump - GM Truck Central
Note that if you're "junkyard savvy" you probably don't even need to modify your existing parts - you can shop for different ones at the junkyard. I believe even the later style Saginaw pumps use the same fittings.

Brandywine auto in MD has a saginaw and bracket of 5.0/5.8 van or at least they did the other week.

Do they list online? I am having trouble using the used-parts websites I have found locating a part description for the bracket? Does anyone know what the part is commonly called? With the popularity of this swap I do not understand why I cannot find one on ebay. I saw that there is a company that makes what looks like a new bracket with the option to get a pump too but the price outside of my budget.

No, but I couldn't get the pump off so I left it there. They weren't even going to charge for bracket, just pump.
