Anyone ever had a bad connection due to a corroded 7pin trailer plug?
Today I hooked up to my dump trailer with electric brakes and when I tested the brakes by pinching the buttons below the dash, the truck said no trailer connected....
After resetting the 7 pin several times it seemed to get work.
I think I’ll clean the plug tabs and add some dilectric grease.
Thoughts?
The back side of mine got packed with dielectric grease the day it came home because it seemed like a common topic here on FTE. It’s super easy to unplug and inspect/add grease!

Agreed, you have to keep it clean (that includes the trailer side) and coat the connections in Dielectric grease. You can get it at any auto parts store. If they look at you funny ask for "spark plug grease". Buy the tube not the little packets and do every plug you can under the truck. A little goes a long way.
On the trailer side keep the plug off the ground and out of the dirt. I don't know how many I see laying on the ground next to a trailer. I put a sandwich bag over mine when not in use. This keeps blowing dust from building up on the contacts and sticking to the grease.
Thanks for the replies.
I did remove the 7 pin at the bumper and pack it a few months ago. The odd thing is I don’t think I’d towed anything since and was hoping I hadn’t screwed something up in the process...
Ill clean up the trailer plug.
The sandwich bag is a great idea. (Till it fills with water...) lol.
I got one of these for my 5'er and it works great for keeping the plug off the ground and clean. Probably the best $10 I have spent on that trailer. 7 Way Plug Guard
