Good day folks, have owned several Ford diesel trucks, currently looking at a 2016 F350, CC, SB, 4x4, KR, White( not Oxford) and Magnetic no scratches or other noticeable blemishes, 3.55 E-locker, with 72K on the clock, clean OASIS, for 40K. It will be used for toting a 10K tag behind toy hauler, and two Golden’s to the lake as well as everyday hauling type stuff. What else should I be asking for or looking at?
thanks
I suppose 24,000 /yr isn't bad but still a decent amount of mileage for that year. However that could mean a lot of highway which is better than less miles and mostly city. What are the engine/idle hours? Any known maintenance records? Just a few things that came to mind.
With anything I buy, if they don't have extensive maintenance records, it's a no-brainer to walk away. Being in your part of the country, look underneath for rust. Inspect the bed for rust, and excessive dents in it, could mean it was abused. Look closely at the suspension to inspect for wear, and if you are near any body shops, stopping by one on a test drive can clue you in if it's been wrecked. Those guys have a keen eye for aftermarket fenders, bumpers, etc.
Is this a private sale, or a dealer truck? With a price tag of $40k I think I'd start with a offer of 34 and see where they land.
Thanks for the responses, it is a dealer sale, I will look at the hours and take a closer look at body panels from the bottom. It looks like a pretty solid truck, sales guy whom I’ve dealt with for years states he doesn’ know the background of the truck in regards to who owned it or what they did with it.
take care
Have them pull an Oasis report. Buying a used truck, from a dealer that doesn't know the history.....I'd want an extended warranty thrown in the deal.
In my state, there is no sales tax on private sales. If I'm looking at a vehicle at a dealer I use that as a bartering chip.
Sounds like a pretty solid truck. Definitely try to get the service records, 2016 has the Gen 2 6.7 in it so a lot of the niggley problems have been corrected. Check the cold side intercooler pipe to see if it's stock. NBD if it is or isn't, will just give you an idea as to what the previous owner might have been like, someone who proactively took care of his vehicle or someone that just took care of the truck as needed based on the service records.
Welcome to the club, when you buy one... Thanks for your service. Maintenance records for sure. Maybe check the DCFM on driver's side frame for water: diesel fuel conditioning module/ lift pump, fuel filter, water separator with yellow drain plug and water in fuel sensor(WIF). Test drive and check for CELs {check engine lights). Definitely sounds like a highway traveler for that amount of mileage which would have been easy on the truck unless it has a fifth wheel or if it towed something. Do a Kelly blue book on to get an idea of what they go for used in your area so you know. Throw a low offer and go from there. Tell them you want an oil change and fuel filter change if it can't be determined when the last one was. Extended warranty would be a plus if they end up wanting high end price. I keep extensive records on mine, like OCD, so I know if something changes because I have all the data. I've been doing this since my 1996 Ford pickup. Includes the two 4Runners, two XJs and my wife's 09 Escape. Good luck.
