When I got my 2016 F250 last year, I knew I wanted a winch on the front for tree work. My 2001 Dodge Ram had a 2" receiver hitch which worked well, but I wanted something a bit more substantial. I went with the Westin winch
tray, and even splurged on the chrome plate for the front. Shortly thereafter, before I got the winch, I found a used Westin HDX grill guard for a great price. The concern I had was would it fit over the tray? After searching the Westin website, I saw that it did, indeed, fit over the tray. Everything seemed to go well until I realized I only had about 6" for a winch-- not enough room. As it turns out, Westin does sell an HDX grill guard with a winch tray built in, but this was not it. The combi guard has the tray lower to allow sufficient room for a 12k winch. I tried everything I could, but in the end, I now have a tray, a grill guard, but no winch yet.
I really like the looks and protection of the HDX grill guard, so I will probably take the tray off and see if I can get a 2" receiver that will work with the guard as installed. Otherwise, I will either have to pay for a receiver to be welded on, or trash both the tray and the guard and buy the combination.
