usually i end up with 300-500 and so many have stories that are great. Several have the hub assembly part #'s and a few other outside items.....
i wish i could find-out the parts diagram for the inner pieces of the pumpkin area. and their part numbers and how can you decide if they should be replaced.....
the plastic looking funnel on each inside shaft area & that splash-type rings?
ball joints are either play or dryness when checked by a inch pound torque wrench. Everything else internally should be fine forever as long as the axle wasnt submerged in water and left in there
SDS. The inner shaft areawhere those plastic looking funnels are has alot of F.O.D. and I've tried to PSI spray with cleaner & Air to get the gunk from that area and not been fully successful.
If I can stop by later today, I'll try and snap a pic to show the condition of the "Axle-shaft guide area and inner seal" that the pic Redford's link provided.
To clean mine I used various cleaning items taped to the end of a broomstick to clean them out. Things I've used to "get in there" are small hair brushes, greenies, sponges, toothbrushes, and other small things I can't remember.
I never used compressed air as I didn't want to blow any of that dust/sand/debris into the differential. The inner oil seal is only a splash guard to keep the oil in when the shaft is installed. Without the shaft that's a big hole that stuff can get into.
