Intermintient problem

Hi all. My brother-in-law has a 1990 F150 with a 5.0 liter. The problem is becoming a stumper. The problem is that at times the truck will lose power. When it happens is after he has stopped the truck and then restarted it. It does not happen all the time. He can drive it for miles and stop go into the store come back out start it up and it runs fine. Another time he might drive it right down the road, stop it, start it back up and bam, no power. Any one ever ran across something like this. Or any one have any suggestions as to what might be causing this problem? Any help sure would be appreciated.

Thanks.

You should have the fuel pressure monitored for a few hours...starting and stopping every so often. If the pressure is borderline, consider changing the fuel pump anyway.

Thanks Phil, by the way, you wouldn't happen to know the correct pressure for this system?? In the manual we have it is showing to different ranges. Not really sure which one it is. Thanks for the info.

Intermintient problem

I had a 302 84 ford van that if i let it sit after driving for 10 minutes or so it would not start. let it cool down for an hour or so or from cold start i didnt have a problem. i lived with it for over a year even planned my trips around it.left it with a mechanic for two weeks he drove it around said he couldnt duplicate the problem. (bull he just didnt drive the thing long)
anyway i let him hinm talk me into a carb. build. that was wasted money. After changing out most of the firing components i was told by a neighbor the only thing left was the pickup coil in the dist. That was the fix!
Any way your post put me in mind of my old problem.when things get hot they do become less conductive especially when they are faulty to begin with. in closing engines become hotter just after shut down i guess because of the loss of coolant flow,
Have you ever wondered why an electric fan on a car comes on just after you turn the engine off?

The fuel pressures should be 30 to 45 Psi with the engine running , Using the fuel pump test lead with the engine off the psi should be 35 to 45 psi .
