The reason I ended up swapping the lower steering shaft on my 2018 2WD with ~70K was because the needle bearings went bad in the U-Joints. There was an annoying sensation in the steering wheel where you could feel every crack in the road, especially at very low speeds. It also felt like bad tie rod ends at times. It is somewhat of a common issue across multiple model years.

Yep, very common on these trucks. I did my '19 not long after I bought it with 81k on the clock. Felt like something in the front end was going to literally come apart. Turned out to simply be the lower steering shaft. I put my new one in using the original bolts, tightened hand tight with a 3/8" ratchet and long extensions. Drove two weeks then checked it again to be sure. It's been fine ever since.
