Push to start

Looks to me that the 2015 and newer is when the push button start was introduced.
Was it standard equipment an all 150's or an option?
Thanks in advance

Optional with higher trim level trucks only, not sure which ones.

So that’s the Lariat level and higher. Not on the XL or XLT

None of the XLT's have it, not even the 302A. Not sure if I'd want that since I usually keep my keys in the truck and don't want the battery drained.

Technically, they all "have it", it's just that the lower trim levels don't have the button. The auto-start sequence is built into all of them now.

Interesting - can 'Push To Start' be added to to an XLT easily? Have you heard of anyone doing it? I really like that feature and would love to be able to add it to the truck.

No, the FOB frequency are different, the harness is not there and neither is the required harness or console module. This has been researched before and the difference between a 302a and a 501a truck are vastly different in terms of parts and as built programming.

Pretty sure it's all there. I know on my XLT, all you have to do is "touch" the start position on the key, and the truck finishes the job. It's become such a habit that I frustrate myself when I get in a different vehicle, and you have to hold the key in the start position until the engine actually fires up.

My feeling is that all you really need to do is add the start button to the dash. You would still need to turn the key to on, but you "could" have a start button. So it's not the same, but the electronics is mostly there.

I myself prefer the key. My wife's Edge has the key less ignition and I just don't like having that big ol' fob in my jeans pocket. And I know for a fact that if I put the fob in the console or somewhere I'd forget it.

The self start function parameter validation test had been standard since 2011. It removes the user from the actual cranking of the engine and essentially self starts based on parameter validation. Much the same as a standby generator with a ATS. You are correct that both methods of starting do use this system as it's a final function of the start sequence. However when it comes to the other start sequence it's very different and handled differently.

The key equipped trucks require inserting the key and manual RFID validation at the ACC position ( momentary delay prior to start confirming validation) then the IPC sends the command to the SJB and PCM this is a 315hz system as Ford calls it in the service content. The pre start functions of the push button start gets confusing, there is a roving radar that detects approach in the door handle to allow easy entry, the information is pre sent to the module in the console to wake up and start scanning. Once validation has happened you can press the brake and push the start button.

Hopefully my XL based STX doesn't have a bunch of that crap, key fob has lock and unlock, that's all.

It still has the start validation sequence. All the trucks have since 2011. Its the reason why you don't need to hold the key to crank the truck.

You don't? haven't tried letting up on the key before the engine starts see what it does.
On all of our other vehicles you hold the key in the start position until it starts, I do the F-150 the same way.
