I saw that on Craigslist Last week. I'd have bought it in a heart beat if I was closer to it. It's a long way away from me. It looks like a real nice truck.
Thanks for all the words of encouragement. I have been waiting a for quite a while to find the "right" truck, and I think it paid off. I'm really looking forward to getting it back to the house.
Well I'm very happy to say that I now own this truck. I will try to get some more photos of the data plate and firewall stamping soon. I am really looking forward to this restoration.
More photos of the truck. It looks really original to me, if there are any items that are incorrect or modified, please point them out. I've purchased 5-6 original manuals and parts catalogs, so hopefully it won't take too long to start diving in and learning. The fenders look like they are the worst parts of the truck, no surprise there.
The plan is to do a full frame off factory restoration.
That clears up a lot we guessed at. It is a nice, original truck!
It is clearly an F2, assembled in Highland Park MI
I still don't know what the O represents.
G was used by Ford for several pale green shades from 51-54 and probably later. Joe's Palisade Green is right for 1950.
The date code 23E (not L) puts it in May production and in the right general area with other E and F trucks.
Interesting that the truck carries both HP and HM designations for the Michigan plant.
Is the O connected to the paint code, or could it be completely separate? I'm obviously new to this, but the only two "truck" colors I've seen listed are Meadow Green and Sea Island Green. Is Palisade Green a factory option for trucks, or only cars? I might try to get a hold of some paint cards to match to the surviving paint.
I looked at all your pictures, and it sure looks like it is pretty much all original. The heater in the cab was aftermarket, but looks period correct, maybe even installed by the dealer at the time.
It is in nice salvageable shape. Having a spare non-widowmaker 8-lug wheel is a real bonus too.
Tom
I think you guys are right, it is Palisade Green and not Sea Island Green. This is a page from the 1950 Truck Handbook. The aftermarket paint books seem to contradict each other, so I would assume the Ford supplied list is going to be the most accurate.

Is this paint sheet suggesting my '49 F2 came with Black wheels? Trying to figure that one out. Thanks!
Well here is a new twist to this F2. It nearly knocked me off my feet when I found out.
Long story short, I am currently deployed overseas, and I had a buddy of mine pick up the truck for me. I have only seen this truck through photos, and talked to the seller via email. After my buddy picked up the truck, he emailed me and said that the seller sent a few other papers along with the current title. He just sent me a few photos of the "papers", and I couldn't be happier. I am especially excited since this is going to be a factory restoration.
