I bought a 65 f-250 camper special about a month ago. The guy I bought it from gave me the name of the person that had it titled, but I can't find him. Has any one out there been thru this and have a solution. I would really hate to part out this truck because it is very solid and complete.
Was the guy you bought it from a wrecker or impound yard? If so, go back and ask for a "lien sale". Then take that, drivers license, and $$$ to the DMV and they'll title it for you.
If he wasn't, then you have to send a letter to the title holder, wait a week, send another, wait a week, send another, and then you can claim you can't contact him.
Keep in mind this is what I had to go through here in Cali a few months ago. It could be different from state to state, in fact I would bet on it.
Call the DMV's toll free number and try to get a person and ask them?
Every state is different. Some states are easier than others. If all else fails, you can use one of the title replacement services advertised in Hemmings, but I hear it's rather expensive ($300?). The slightly dishonest route is, there is only 1 VIN tag on these trucks...you could always buy a rusty one and change the door tag.
I live in TN and in my county (Hamilton) they are hard to get along with.
I bought the truck from an individual that lost the title years back and never registered the truck. He gave me the guys name that had the truck before him but I can't find him.
I will try calling the DMV again and see if I can get some information from them.
