not the springs on the hood hinges but the one that makes the hood pop up a few inches when you pull the release. most vehicles have it or them facing up clearly visible

Oh OK now I know what you are talking about.
That spring that you would get hung up on when leaning over it LOL
I will have to see how it is done on our trucks.
Some have the "head opener" hanging off the hood and others are built into the latch assy.
I don't have a hood on my truck yet so did not look closely at it. Heck only a few weeks back I installed the hood open cable and at first ran it wrong.

He's talking about the hidden spring inside the hood...methinks. Pushes off the latch post.

we have a winner
lately my hood had become very difficult to open. like to the point i thought the handle and some cable was going to break off.
so I lubed up the cable a bit.....and still didnt help. I noticed the cable was moving very freely. It was the latch mechanism that had become extremely stubborn. So I lubed it up and worked it good with kroil, wd40 etc
but then I noticed there was no spring to make the hood pop up when the latch released....
then I looked up and saw the little tab and felt it had a spring behind it.
