Wheel bearings

So I had a major wheel bearing malfunction and it ended up grinding a deep gouge in the spindle, gotta replace that to, but my question are the races pressed into the hub/rotor or can you just tap them in with a hammer?

They are pressed in, what I do is use the old races to guide the new ones in and use a piece of 2x4 to tap what ever is still stick8ng out.

the outer race kinda disintegrated lol and the inner broke in 2 pieces when I was tapping them out

You can still use a 2x4 to guide them in just tap gently.

They are not that hard to remove or install a chisel and a hammer or an air chisel, it does the job easy.
