Engine swap process tips

1955 F250

I am waiting on delivery of my truck from Kansas. The engine is seized (223) and I have a running one from a '60 ready to swap in. I could probably figure it out when I get it with some studying but having some tips in advance helps avoid reinventing the wheel. So a few questions...

-What are the best engine mounting points on a 223 to connect the engine hoist to?

-What is the best way to connect the chains to the engine? Is there a plate like on a Chevy 350 or a bracket or just bolt chains to the block somewhere?

-Does the grill, core supoort or any other parts of the front end need to come off or can you get the engine high enough to get over the grill.

-If not do you put it in dropped jack stands to get the body lower?

-I am sticking with the existing 4 speed. Does the transmission need to come out with the engine or can I leave it in. If I leave it in are you just blocking it up to hold the front in place?

-If taking out the transmission does one if those angle adjusters help or is it easy enough to just manhandle the tailshaft past the firewall.

-Any other tips would be really appreciated to help me avoid unnecessary mistakes or complications .

Thanks!!

It is much easier to remove the front clip than to work upside-down. If you know that the tranny will bolt cleanly on, you can leave it in. Since we don't know exactly which engine is going in, only you can answer that question.

Thanks,

Was hoping I didn't have to take the front fenders etc. Off. Will the whole front clip come off as a single unit....fenders, core support etc?

I was under the impression that the 223 IL 6 engine from a '60 F100 was the same as one from a '55. I am replacing like for like if I have it right.

I was able to pull my 215 I6 engine without removing the front clip. I separated the engine from the transmission, however.

Bolt holes either some of the head bolts or there are several hols on the block that can be attached too.

-What is the best way to connect the chains to the engine? Is there a plate like on a Chevy 350 or a bracket or just bolt chains to the block somewhere?
There is a special tool that attaches to the block to help lift it, if this were the fifty's it would be available :P Best bet is chains direct to the engine.

-Does the grill, core supoort or any other parts of the front end need to come off or can you get the engine high enough to get over the grill.
If just taking the engine, the hood will have to be removed, a hoist will not have enough clearance to lift the engine with it on.

-If not do you put it in dropped jack stands to get the body lower?
No ideas

-I am sticking with the existing 4 speed. Does the transmission need to come out with the engine or can I leave it in. If I leave it in are you just blocking it up to hold the front in place?
98% you have to take it out. In my case I have a 223 with a 4 speed in my 55 F350, the 4 speed is only attached via the engine itself. No external mounts hold it in.

-If taking out the transmission does one if those angle adjusters help or is it easy enough to just manhandle the tailshaft past the firewall.
An angle adjuster will most likely help but as mentioned above taking the whole front clip off would most likely be useful.

-Any other tips would be really appreciated to help me avoid unnecessary mistakes or complications .
Change your engine mounts, don't reuse the old ones. I spent at least a month fiddling with my clutch because brackets between the frame and transmission were not lining up. All because my old engine mounts were worn. Also, get the 1953-1956 ford truck manual, lots of good information on all of the truck variants.

Thanks!!
Hopefully that information helps.
