Hey everyone I posted this in the 99-16 forum and had no love. It's not a 6.0 specific question.
I've had an issue with what I thought was my rear diff for a year or so now. I actually stopped driving the truck last summer because of it. it was making some wild clunking and banging around. If I had the trailer on and loaded with any amount of weight when taking off on a hill while turning right it would make the rear view shake like I had subs in the cab. well I was going through the truck today for a pre annual safety inspection and I found this ( see pic) 2 of the 24mm backing plate nuts had somehow backed off could all my issues be the e brake jamming up slightly? I ran out of time and didn't get that right rear rotor pulled off. Also no test run since I tightened the nuts up.
It's not just the parking brake that can be affected, but the fixture is the connection between the axle and disc brake caliper, with one added caliper bracket in there. When you pull it all down you might find there was caliper bracket contact with the rotor. But the parking brake jamming can cause a feeling like that. You just need to get in there and see what's going on. It might just be a loose bracket.
Thanks for the post. One day this week I'll get the rear tire pulled off and check out what's going on in there. I didn't notice any rotor wear but I wasn't really looking for it. Unless you meant in the parking brake drum part?
I've drove a few trucks with wore out diffs and this one felt the worst, by far. 04 250 with 200,000 km on it. I'm not sure when I'll have it out for a drive but hopefully that fix will save me a 1000 dollar rear end
There's not much clearance between the rotor and caliper bracket, If the bracket was moving around it could have a witness mark on the rotor OD. Not that I'm stating your issue would be 100% brake related. You ask a brake guy where the problem is, and he'll go directly to brakes.
That's the only abnormal wear anywhere I could find. I was hoping the e brake shoes were going to be all choppy and that would have made me think that was the biggest issue.
still to be determined until I drive it or pull the cover.
Finally got the truck re-re'd. Took it for a drive with an empty trailer (500 lbs or so tongue) it felt pretty good. Maybe a little bit clunky on wot accel. I don't do diffs so my buddy is going to pull the cover when it's on the hoist.
