Dealer fuel filter change gone VERY bad
Took my 2017 250 platinum for first fuel filter change at dealer I purchased it from. Picked it up at end of day and drove about a mile before noticing smoke and smell. Turned around and got back to service dept. The diesel mechanic forgot to clip high pressure return line to filter assembly. So the engine compartment got sprayed everywhere worse part is it got into ventilation system and coated everything. They detailed it (what a joke) still vapors burning eyes, headache from hell, and feeling sick. Gave it back and told them to replace all ventilation plumbing heater core, fan assembly, remove body from chassis and clean entire underbody. They have had it for 4 days now. I warned them that if smell remains I want a high trade at a wash for new. Might need a lawyer at that point.
So has anyone had this happen to yourself or had the dealer replace a truck due to negligence.
Its not not just a smell. Raw Diesel fumes are poisonous inside a small enclosed area. Would you put your child in this $70,000 truck now.......

Geez, that’s terrible, what a mess. I hope you took pictures. I’m surprised the thing even ran. Get as much documentation as you can. I would even be tempted to go have an ‘air quality’ test done. They are going to do everything in their power to not give you a new truck - like ripping the thing apart and cleaning it which based on this incompetence would scare the hell out of me. Not to mention the rattles it will produce as the truck ages. Ugg, just terrible

Certainly a health hazard that could lead to health concerns for the rest of your life...I would not stop until all items with the HVAC have been replaced, plus a complete refresh of the interior, shampoo, leather cleaning and detailed cleaning of all doors and vents.
That is costing them a pretty penny. Hope they fired the guy, you could have even had a engine fire with that mess.

The exact same thing happened to me a year ago but I made it home and the next day when I was going to work at the first stop light I had to nail it to get over a lane and the line blew off the filter spraying fuel everywhere. There was a misty trail of diesel behind me and it covered everyone who was at the light behind me. I pulled over a block or so later and diesel was dripping off everything under the hood. In the block or two that I drove it blew out over a 1/4 tank of fuel. Dealer came and picked it up and spent all day cleaning it. I picked it up that night and still smelled it and said to try again or buy me a new truck. Got it back the next night and was basically odor free. For the next week or so I would get a whiff of diesel every now and then but that was about it. I still give my service advisor a hard time about it every time they change the filters but he's a good sport about it and bent over backwards for me when it happened.

diesel service work at a dealership is scary business. if you do you own service it will get done right, but then you get push back on warranty claims. if you take it to a predominately car dealer, the guy who just worked on an escort, is trying to find the fuel and oil filters in a diesel....they don't purge the air...and they do not prefill the filters. many cases of vehicles being returned to owners with no fill caps, no drain plugs, uncompleted re-assemble.
Im putting a camera pointing at all service points.
but probably wont do any good...since ford makes us all sign "we agree to a ford appointed arbitrator" during legal disputes.
probably be best to take our trucks to ford commercial truck centers for service.
