hey all, my 79 351m always runs like crap, i rebuilt 2150 carb other day. i did all gaskets, powervalve, pump, filter, and real good cleaning. i did not replce float only the needle jet and clips. now trying to get it started theres fuel leaking out of the very top plate gasket and truck will not run. (bad float, not adjusted right?) any suggest? i have another float but its used, thanx
Sounds like the float isn't doing its job if you're getting leakage out the top. It's possible to get it set up wrong in a variety of ways. Make sure you didn't bend the float arm, when snapping it all into place. And also make sure that you got it all assembled correctly. It sucks if you're like me, and would prefer to remove the whole carb from the engine, and to a work bench, in order to more easily find any parts you might drop.
thanx mg, i no nothing snapped in when i put it together, float pins slid in them little grooves then the clip around float pin clipped over where the needle jet goes into. the truck has ran in a year and carb was all dry when i took it apart last week. could float leak and fill with gas making it sink in float bowl? any guesses
I guess I was thinking of the clip when I said "snapping." It's been about two years since I did one, and I've only done a few others in the past. I haven't tested the one I did two years ago yet, but I'm wanting to put it on my truck.
Yeah the float could go bad and fill with gas and sink to the bottom of the bowl. That might be your problem, but it might not. Either way, it sounds like you're going to have to open 'er up and see exactly what's happening.
It could even be something like the new needle and seat leaking.
Did you check or adjust the float level before putting it back together?
