What is the best way to clean windshields? I have used all kinds of products even straight alcohol to clean my windshield and it looks clean. But whenever there is some fog or moisture at night my windshield fogs up and stays like that untill I drive for a couple of miles. I doesn't mater if I use the defroster on heat or cold. Also it looks like there are patchs of wax or something on the glass. Any ideas?
After you clean it good with something like mentioned ( I saw glass stripper at NAPA, but you can't use it on mirrors or it will scratch). You could apply that rain-x anti-fog, you can put it inside too, it might help.
Wax your windows also - does the same thing as Rain-X. I do the windows and mirrors the same time I do the paint. You can use polish also to get the stubborn places also...
Don't put wax on the windshield since it will start to gum up when the wiper is used. You will get wax deposits at the end of the wiper sweep and it will cause the wipers to chatter in some cases. Wax on other windows works fine.
I use a good window cleaner and a good shop rag to clean the inside and outside. Then I rainX the outside. RainX does need to be renewed when you use the wipers enough but at least it doesn't chatter or create waxy deposits.
triton:
imo, for inside glass, nothing beats the old fashioned chamois and a bucket of clean water. any applied chemical will mingle with the fumes given off by vinyl and other plastics used on the interior and create a "gummy" mess on the glass surface.
