The computer counts from zero regardless. If it could be field-reset by anyone doing an oil change then many of the oil change shops would likely reset it to 3,000mi/5,000km to drum up business.

I agree with your direction. Use this adequate conventional oil for a short period (with the weather starting to warm up) then change to something better. Personally, I'd do full-synthetic, but Blend is definitely better than conventional.

Gabar is correct here. Ford calls it IOLM for "Intelligent Oil Life Monitor", and it considers a number of factors, not straight mileage.

From the Ford web site:
Your vehicle is equipped with an Intelligent Oil-Life Monitor (IOLM) that determines when you should change your engine oil based on how your vehicle is used. By considering several important factors in its calculations, the IOLM helps ensure that your engine can perform at its best while also helping you avoid unnecessary oil changes.

With the help of the IOLM, you don’t have to remember to change your oil on a preset mileage-based schedule. Your vehicle will let you know when it’s time for an oil change by displaying a message in the information display.

The following table provides examples of vehicle use and how each scenario can affect oil change intervals. In practice, actual oil change intervals will depend on several different factors, but severe usage will generally require more frequent changes. Also, if it’s been more than a year since your last oil change, the IOLM will display a reminder message regardless of your mileage.
I got this all from,here.

That link includes a general description of Normal, Severe, and Extreme driving conditions along with an estimated mileage for each.

Didn't we all learn years ago the EcoBoost is not capable of going past 5k before the fuel dilution sends wear metal through the roof!

Agree. I didn't mean distance, but rather meant whatever counter it accumulates on. I probably should have said:

"The computer counts from zero to whatever threshold it crosses to decide that it's time to change oil based on how the vehicle is operated."

My point at the time was that: There is no easy way to reset that interval to be shorter or longer based on the type of oil used etc.

. . . with an implied: Thank goodness.

Unless I missed someone mentioning it, the IOLM can be reset to any percentage. You can set it to go off at ex. 50% if you want it to not go past 5k miles before the warning tells you to change it.

Unless I was running full synthetic I would never reset the IOLM and change it when it said to. You're basically going to be changing it at 10K miles or one year, whichever comes first. The IOLM has no idea what type of oil you're using.

I would find it hard to believe conventional oil would be adequate/capable of protecting your engine up to 10K miles...
