2000, 189k miles, new plugs and boots about a year ago, or ~15k miles ago.
Last weekend got some gas at the same place as usual. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday were unusually cold here in Texas, around 20deg, so I drove my other car.
Went to drive the Excursion yesterday and it was idling quite rough. Felt like it was shaking/juttering a couple times a second or so.
Any ideas on where to start looking? Feels like a misfire but it is odd that it would just start after freezing weather.
Thanks, just put a scanner on it and got code p0305. I'm not sure if I have Mode $06 on my torque app, but at least I know what cylinder it is now.
Given the plugs/boots are fairly new, I'm thinking that the freeze might have affected the coil pack? Guess I can swap coil packs and see if the code follows to test that.
I just did the exact same thing, I thought it was bad gas. Turns out I had an intake gasket leak. Spark plug wells 7 and 8 were filled with antifreeze. My check engine light never came on, checked it anyways and coil 7 was reporting a misfire. Apparently my check engine light is not working.....
I ended up pulling the intake, cleaning everything, replacing the gaskets, thermostat, hoses, spark plugs and boots, coil 7, and flushing the coolant. Runs great now. I also added the O-rings to the boots, well worth the $7 for the added insurance that it may keep the coolant out of the wells next time.

the excursion wont set check engine for misfire, epa programming loop hole
Today when running the truck, it is not stuttering in Drive like before. It stutters very very slightly in Park, but it has always done that. Once I drop into Drive it feels pretty smooth. Nevertheless I started some tests.
I pulled the COP on #5 and swapped it with #1. While the COP was on, I took a picture of #5. It didn't look too wet or anything, but it was very hard to tell.
With the COPs swapped, I unplugged the one on #1 and it started stumbling, so that COP was OK. No codes came up.
I went to take a look at the spark plug on #5, and discovered there was a damn screw on the top of it. You can barely see it in the picture because it is blurry. The spark plug was tight, so I didn't even bother taking it out. I just disposed of the screw.
I put the COP back on and it is still acting as normal. Stumbling/vibrating ever so slightly in Park, but feels good in Drive. I unplugged #5 and started it up, and it ran badly, so clearly it is not completely misfiring. I guess I will take it on a short drive and keep checking for a code coming back.
