I have a 32' motor home with a ford rebuilt V10 with about 8k on it. Lately it started to get hot on long hard climbs. If I go slow and keep the rpms below 3500 it will stay cool. If I climb normaly at 4000+ rpms it gets hot. The fan never comes on and the one time it got really hot the engine never went into limp mode. My local shop changed the fan cluch, thermostate, and the cap. He also said he checked the exhaust gases and it was normal. Anyone have any ideas
Thanks for your reply. I think the clutch was really changed. I had them put in a ford part not an after market. The first time it got hot the gauge was in the red and the dash warning ligts came on I pulled off the road and looked under the hood every thing looked fine not coolant loss etc. It was not steaming. After avery short idle (2 or 3 min) it cooled right down. I think they checked the exhaust gases to see if they had cooolant in them (blown head casket etc).My owners manual says if this engine gets hot it sould go into a limp mode and shut down part of the engine so you can get it off the road with out any damage. This never happened. Is this controled by the same computer that ajusts fuel mixture
I had the same problem. What I finally found out was posted here in AUgust 2002. Bottom line, I took out the radiator, gee what a big radiator, and I had it rodded. According to the radiator shop, that is all they do, it was 60 percent stopped up. Somewhere along the line, someone had put green anti-freeze with orange. That is a big NO, NO. It will coagulate and stop up the radiator. I had flushed, changed out the $160.00 fan clutch, thermostate, Fan, I had done it all. I spent a lot of money. After the radiator rodding, it has runas cool as a cucumber and the fan comes on like it should, where before it never came on. My money on your problem is in the radiator, not anywhere else. I have been there, done that and got tattoed!
