No, you can leave the transmission range selector , from the auto, hooked to the truck's wiring harness, and you will be able to drive the truck. The cruise control will not work if you go this route.

IMO the best way to do this is buy a parts truck, swap everything over and sell the rest.

Parts truck is definitely the way to go. I pieced my parts together and it sure would nave been nice to have a parts truck. You can keep the auto ECM if you want to but I’ve heard that the auto programming makes the throttle real twitchy when starting out. I changed mine to manual ECM so I never ran the manual trans with the auto ECM. I think you can also get a PHP Hydra chip with manual tunes for the auto ECM.

Pretty sure that the cruise control circuit is independent of the ECM, you just have to swap some wires around on the harness. I kept the auto harness and cut off the unnecessary wires. I probably spent more time reading and studying “swap” threads than I spent on the actual work.

You have three options:
1- Leave the TRS in the truck in the N or P position and use your Auto PCM
2- Make a wiring change under the dash (essentially, just adding a jumper), eliminate the TRS, and keep your Auto PCM
3- Swap in a PCM from a manual truck.

Any one of the three will work just fine and drive normally.
