fuel pump woes

So the truck has had a hard time starting latley....and when i t doesnt start, i wack the tank and then it starts and runs fine. Well, I ordered a new pump today and i figured i would pull it in the garage and start the removal process. Well I went to start it and it sounded odd during crank, but no start...wack the tank and it started and a puff of white smoke came out and it ran fine, no stumble or anything...Check Engine Lamp is now on steady...mind you, Ive never had any codes with this truck ever. I scanned it and i got an P0307 and a pending 0304...Misfire on 7 and pending misfire on 4. Could these codes have popped up because of the malfunctioning pump? Like I said, no problems whatsoever until 2 days ago when pump started acting up............I would hate to have something else be wrong with her....Love this ole truck!

I would be inclined to think it's because of the malfunctioning pump. Every time you go to start it there's an intermittent fuel supply. At least your lucky enough to make it home. Mine went at 100,000 and wouldn't start even banging the tank, cost me an extra tow home.
Funny thing, dropping the tank on just a fresh full fill was easier than reinstalling with a partial tank. The partial fill would slosh while trying to reposition and almost fall off my jack. Working by myself of coarse, with no one near to steady the tank.

if the injector opened up to shoot fuel into the cylinder, and the fuel line DONT HAVE FUEL, then yes, you could get a misfire... not due to spark, but lack of fuel....... I would replace the pump, then clear codes, then start over.

so I also raised my hood while im awaiting my fuel pump to arrive and i noticed coolant in the valley and its leaking from the left from crossover pipe area. So that came apart last night too.......cleaned up mating surfaces and new dorman intake comes in friday....Almost 5 years to the day that i replaced it five years ago......I also nocticed some pitting on the lower intake manifold flange.....anyone else ever notice this? im worried about it sealing with the new one, so i think i may use a small bit of rtv on it

I have dropped tanks and I have removed beds and much prefer the latter, to replace in tank pumps.

removing the bed does not help on a CREW... the tank / pump is under the back seat.

Soooooo I finished putting the new intake on today and i went to fire it up and it sounded like a dead battery, so i checked voltage and it was low...around 11 volts....anyhow....I jumped it and she came to life!! I let it idle while I checked for leaks and all was good, except I had such a white cloud of sweet smell for about 15 minutes.....I was ready to cry, as, i never had ANY head gasket issues before my fuel pump died, and i noticed the coolant leak in the valley! So I decided to go to parts store to pick up some Bars copper....and would you belive the whole ride there and back, I had no smoke at all anymore....What gives? Does it take a while to burn out the coolant the likely went down in the cylinder when i took the intake off? I do have one code.....P0453.....I''ll have to check that sensor in the tank...I know i had to zip tie the connector closed because I broke it coming out............Can it really take a bit to burn it off? I would be so upset if i had to get rid of the ole girl. I guess I will wait till tommorrow morning and fire it up and see how it runs.....Wish me luck.........MANY beers tonight!
Thanks
Rich

Leaks can be very slow. May not notice during running. Let it set overnight or weekend and look at the coolant tank to see if it is dropping... You may be misfire in the morning if coolant leaks inside and needs to be burnt off for the first minute or so... The BARS COPPER is good stuff if you have a small problem.

I woke up to 20 degrees this morning and expected a no start or clouds of smoke, but it started up without hesitiation and no smoke! I let it run for 15 minutes, then went out for a few hours...no issues! I still put about half a bottle of Bars Copper in anyway though

Cant hurt... the BARS only works on a differential pressure, like antifreeze leaking external to atmosphere or into the crank case.. I does not plug radiators or heater cores..... You should be good to go !!
