So Yesterday I pickup my 1986 F-150 from my Grandpa's in which I had it there parked for a sort term period.
Anyways he took it upon himself to rattle can the entire truck white I guess to prevent any minor rust from spreading.
So now I have rattle can paint Over spray on the Chrome trim pieces.
Anybody have any suggestions of what product to use that won't tarnish the chrome trim? I feel that Paint thinner will mess it up since it's plastic.
it may sound strange but if the paint is not to old, fresh paint will dissolve it. Spray a tiny bit on a rag to wet it then wipe the over spray gently to remove.

That does sound strange lol It's been from what he said about a Year ago he did this.
I was thinking maybe some rubbing Alcohol & a rag might do the trick but I'm open for other suggestions.
I would give Lacquer thinner a try but just damp rag not soaking wet.
That is what I used on the cert sticker in the door jamb. I had no clue how long that paint had been on there and I am sure that sticker is softer than the moldings.
Thought I had an after picture?? Guess I need to get one.

Only the bumpers are chrome plated, everything else is either anodized aluminum or chrome plated plastic.

Quoted from post #1. OP did mention plastic, but never mentioned anodized aluminum.
Since it has overspray and the body side/tailgate mouldings (if present) are anodized aluminum...

Try turpentine, my upolstery guy used it for clean Up with bostic/ ados type glues on paint, it will remove tar etc . I think it is pretty safe on your real paint and trim and might remove the spray bomb stuff . Try a small area first .Cheers

I'll look into that as well.
I'm also thinking on trying some Goo Gone just for the hell of it, I know it's plastic friendly
For sure test a small area to see if it softens the chrome finish. Although I'm thinking anything short of MEK is going to be safe to use. Personally I'd use charcoal lighter fluid and a soft cloth. It will take some elbow grease but should take care of it. If not take a step up to Acetone and be gentle.
