I am looking for a replacement rear end for my van problem is there are not tags on the rear end to get the current info off of. My question is is there a way to know what type of rear end I need by the door jam tag??
It will be a Dana 60 full floater(hubs sticking out of the wheels) because that was the only brand of axles used in these vans, the Dana was used in other vehicles but you want one from another van as the spring perches are a little further apart than they were on a pickup. So all you really need to do is find another 1 ton Ford van and look for the same axle code on drivers door pillar to match the gear ratio... assuming you want the same ratio.
The van depicted in the OP's door tag looks to be an E250 perhaps extended body since its designated as a "bus, not school bus". I have an '05 E350 with the same designation but it has a semi-floating rear axle. Another giveaway is the GWR of 8600#---a one ton should be 9400# or more. Tire size also suggests this chassis is indeed an E250---E350's stock tire size was LT245/75R16E's.
Swap wise I'd suggest sticking with the same model you have---those should be somewhat plentiful in the scrap yards. LKQ Online is a good source for a national search--they'll transfer parts into a close by location so you wouldn't have to pay freight for a rear axle.

Not sure why you are even debating if it is a E250 or E350, the thread title is E350. There were different tire sizes and GVWR ratings available for E350. And this is a 4 row not a 5 row so it will be lighter than some.
