I am planning to change the transmission fluid in a 97 ford F-150 with an auto 4R70W transmission. The truck has 85,000 miles should I add any type of additive to help extend the life of the trany?

If you use Mercon V, you probably do not need any additives. With the basic Mercon, then you might want to add something. When I did my 96 F150, I added Lube Guard a month or so after I did the Mercon ATF change. I cannot prove it one way or the other, but it seemed to smooth out the shifts a little.
