I was thinking about converting my 6.4 to run on corn oil as well being that the fuel milage is terrible it would save on fuel but I’m not sure where to buy the kit or if its even a possibility in this motor does anyone have any ideas on this?
using cooking oil (corn, soy, peanut, etc) would help you MPG problem only if you have a cheap or free source for the oil.
you can get used cooking oil for free at some restaurants as they either throw it out, or wait for folks like you and me to pick it up for them. large group homes, boarding schools, etc are another source.
but you will find a lot of resturants are already in the club and someone put what looks like a dumpster on their grounds and they dump their used oil there...the company that places the dumster process the oil as biofuel.
another but, is that if you go down the used oil route, you have to process it not impossible. you have to filter the fries and meat out of it, then mix with methonal and lye, let it sit for 3 days, then get the glycerol (laeyr of gunk) and methonal out of it...and you will wind up with bio-fuel at 100% which you can mix down to b5, b10, b20.
the 6.4 is only certified to b5 and that is due to the level of nitrix oxcide the engine produces...this was solved in the 6.7 by the DEF system and as a result, the 6.7 can run b20 .
If you run new cooking ooil in your 6.4, it will get you home, but anything more than a gallon will spin up your regen process and prolong use of unprocess cooking ol will coke up your injectors and while they can be cleaned with out removing them, its not something you will want to be doing .
if you are getting mid 15's highway you have a decently tuned engine. if you are getting less than 10, your engine is either worn, or there is a valve drive train problem.
