I've just bought this truck...looks like someone before broke one glow plug off by putting side force on it while trying to undo I'm guessing. So what I see is female hole flush with engine. Do you think I could just use an easy out and extract it? Also heard that if they arenta genuine Motorcraft I should change them all.
Thanks in advance
The problem is that the aftermarket glow plugs tend to expand in the head and then when you try to remove it, it breaks off. So, yes, I recommend you replace them all with Motorcraft. The broken one, ugh, you can try an easy out but just don't break it off in the plug as you will have a heck of a time drilling it out after that.
Be sure to give yourself every advantage. Lots of penetrating oil, some heat, time, good straight access. You're probably only going to get one chance. I've never had one break off below the hex you put your wrench on, but I did have one swell, as postmaster mentioned. Apparently, there is a special tool for removing those. I made a split nut to fit the threads, held it with needle nose pliers, backed out a turn or two, added a spacer washer, repeat several times. The selling I had was just enough to keep me from pulling it out, but it threaded out without any issues. Motorcraft
